Nature Therapy: How Spending Time Outdoors Benefits Your Health

Given the fast-paced lifestyle of the present society, most people experience stress and burnout at some point in time and often do not consider the very simpleoption of nature walks. Nature therapy, also known as spending time outdoors, is said to have the ability to improve the health of the individual in a number of ways as it addresses both physical and mental well-being.
Physical Health Promotion-
Spending time in nature encourages physical activity, whether it be hiking, walking, or simply strolling through a park. This can be of benefit to the heart as there is movement involved. Such movements increase energy levels in addition to enhancing muscle strength. Exposure to sunlight can also help increase the body’s production of Vitamin D which is essential for bones as well as the immune system. In addition, outside activity relaxes the circadian rhythm by synchronizing the internal clock of the body with natural lighting, which may have a favorable effect on sleep.
Mental and Emotional Well-Being–
Mental health also benefits greatly from eco and outdoor therapy. A number of studies have indicated that outdoor environments greatly lessen the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. The soothing effect of nature on anxiety is enhanced by the decreased secretion of cortisol since this hormone provokes stress, giving way to a calmer state of mind. Additionally, being in the present can increase the feeling of happiness, as well as boost a person’s ability to withstand the issues at hand.
When people are outdoors, there’s some level of slow work, where people engage with nature, appreciating the present moment.
